US Coast Guard at 10 Harbor Drive, Wilmette, Illinois.

If in New London, visit the Coast Guard Academy. The grounds include the Robert Crown Memorial Park and there is a small museam doccumenting the history of the Coast Guard. Be sure to stop in and see the stained glass windowns inside Cadet Memorial Chapel. At the waterfront, you can walk out to the sailing house built on a rock outcropping in the Themes River. If your lucky, you can see the cadets sailing colorful boats and you might see a nuclear submarine coming or going from the Groton Sub Base on the other side of the river. Admission and parking are free but you do need to show a valid driver's license at the security gate. Open to the public.
